About the Idabel Market

Idabel is in the far southeastern corner of Oklahoma, in McCurtain County.  The city has a rich history of agriculture, wood processing plants, tire manufacturing, and tourism. Idabel was established in 1902 by the Arkansas and Choctaw Railway being built across the southern portion of the Sovereign Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, the rail line now being operated by the Kiamichi Railroad.  Idabel lies between the Little River and the Red River, about 21 miles west of the Oklahoma-Arkansas State Line, 40 miles east of Hugo, 12 miles south of Broken Bow, and 21 miles south of Hochatown.

According to the US Census Bureau, the city has an area of 15.9 square miles. Idabel is served by US-259, US-70, SH-3, and SH-37. McCurtain County Regional Airport is 2 miles northwest of Idabel and features a 5002 ft. paved runway.

Idabel has freight rail service through the Kiamichi Railroad and commercial air transportation is available 73 miles southeast at Texarkana Regional Airport.

Idabel is home of the Museum of the Red River which houses art as well as archaeology, including the Arocanthosaurus autokinesis, the Oklahoma State Dinosaur.  The Barnes-Stenson House is a 1912 restored Victorian house complete with period furnishings and is on the National Register of Historic Places in Oklahoma.  Other Idabel locales include the Frisco Station, the Idabel Armory, the Rouleau Hotel, the Spaulding-Olive House, Gladys Hill Memorial Park, and an 18-hole golf course located at the Idabel Country Club.  Idabel is within driving distance of the Little River National Wildlife Refuge, Broken Bow Lake, Beavers Bend State Park, McCurtain County Game Reserve, and the Carson Creek Recreation area.  The county is known for a wide variety of outdoor activities that include hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, kayaking and much more.
